Ken rockwell on his website echoed those sentiments......basically saying what great value the D40 was compared to the 40x/50/60. And that the D40 was his choice from a price/performance perspective over it's pricier stablemates.
I personally love the look of the D300 - baby version of the D3 without the price tag, but at close to a grand for the body i'd better start saving now.
Is anyone else old enough to remember a kids TV programme called "How!"? It was presented by Jack Hargreaves among others and the photo of Jack Schofield in the article above looks very like this one of Jack Hargreaves

A friend of mine was on holiday in Florida, and he was lazing by the pool. The hotel had arranged a treasure hunt for all the kids at the hotel, and so there were a dozen or so children trolling around the pool looking for clues. One kid reckoned that there was a clue under my friend's lounger, but was too shy to ask himself, so dragged his mother into it. The woman came across and asked my friend if he spoke English. Naturally, being English born and bred, he replied, "Like a native".
The woman, being American, raised her right hand, a la Bunty James, and said, "How"
