None of the IT techs or Helpdesk people in our place is on annual increments. We stay the same every year, except for the annual inflation rise. The reasoning is that if we leave, they can just recruit anybody off the street to do the job and they do so!! And yet they pay the system admin, who is outsourced - a fortune.

I know this has done before but a while ago now, lets have a recap on Salary and Job Title. Hopefully it could help those pushing for better deserved pay.

What I think it comes down to is

1) Technicians must speak up for themselves, if there is a lack of training or salary review then ask the SMT for it to be provided.

2) If you are told there is a lack of money then look for a job elsewhere. There are plenty of opportunities commercially that are well funded and provide CPD / Training. CPD is crucial to the IT sector as your skills date rapidly and expecting you to fund it yourself is unrealistic especially on a typical school salary. If you are being paid less then 20-25k and have an MCSE or equivalent then you are simply being ripped off IMO.

If you work for lea then you must go up an increment each year until you hit top of your grade after that inflation only.

The school can not get around this is lea school etc as all lea's must follow the green book.

Unless your job description changes of course - ie. a promotion.
