One of ITV's most popular hosts during the 1980s, he was admitted to hospital last week suffering from pneumonia.

He was best known for fronting You've Been Framed, Game For a Laugh and Beadle's About, but raised millions for the charity Children with Leukaemia.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at a charity event (promoting bone marrow donors IIRC) and he was a lovely bloke with an infectious laugh.

I'm really shocked - he was only 59. A great bloke. He didn't deserve the nasty stuff the television critics said about him or his shows.

What odds can I get that at Beadles funeral the vicar gets halfway through the service then pulls his moustache off, starts grinning and you see the microphone come up from under his clothes.

    We can but hope

The thing i'll remeber most about beadle is his very little hand. Once i read about it in an article, it became quite difficult to ignore during the You've Been Framed sections when he'd be talking to camera.

beadle will always be the guy with those terrible traffic warden disguises, that usually comprised said uniform, microphone at the ready, tinted specs and the fake beard on top of a real beard. genius.

Beadles about was a staple of ITV light-entertainment viewing in the 80's during my childhood, along with surprise surprise on saturday evenings, and bullseye on sunday afternoons. These days we get xfactor and other garbage telly.
