    1 New Laptop Rqd.

Right, the Head wants a new laptop, and he has asked for something "as quick as possible" and "as light as possible" and I have a budget of £500.

The computer (obviously) must have XP Pro, but OS isnt strictly needed as we have a few unopened boxes of XP Pro.

Have checked Novatech, Misco, Laptops Direct, but nothing really catches my eye.

    Any reccomendations?!

Our current standard laptop is the HP 6715b, and if you get the one with Vista included you can claim £100 back (if you get your invoice before 31st Jan that is). It isn't overly heavy and if you add a 3 year warranty still comes in under your budget.

Insight have them for £480 + warranty (£110) - £100 cashback so it would be £490. We get them through European Electronique for about £30 or so less than that.

(7a) (corollary). Good, Fast, Cheap: Pick any two (you can't have all three).

£500 isn't a huge budget to get a fast AND light laptop. You'll be able to either find an average weight one that's pretty nippy, or (if you're lucky) a slower lighter one...

For my money, I'd go with one of two HP's on Misco.

If you can go over budget by £15 to get up to 2GB ram,

    If not, http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...288208&CatId=0

I'm a big fan of the HP laptops - really nice feel to the keyboards, decent build quality etc.

The first you link to is the one I mention above but with XP Pro instead of Vista - the only difference is the cashback being double for the Vista model.

It's over your budget by £100 but the Dell XPS1330 is very fast/fully featured and very light. Not to mentioned it looks seriously bling which is generally the main criteria for most of the Headmasters I've met

    £599
