    Smother me in oil...

    New year - New ideas....

I opened my mouth and now I'm paying the price - I suggested we look at getting our Minibuses converted to run on vegetable oil as kinda a joke but now it's gathered momentum and I've got to turn it into reality (reality - in Education? Yes I know, I know....!).

We've priced it up, looked at how to do the engine conversions, but has anyone out there actually done it yet?

    Help & suggestions/advice much appreciated.

I thought you were an ICT technician?

Are you going to attempt this your self or send it to a garage somewhere for someone else to do it? If it breaks-down now you know it's gonna be your fault :P

Presume you want a company to do the conversion?

Biodiesel conversion companies are what you want I would think?

Thanks, Ben. Yes we've looked at a few local companies, but they want a load of moolah to do the work. We can get the conversion kits ourselves so we're going to do the older bus first and see how it goes.

What minibuses do you have? The old LDVs/transits with the peugeot/citroen engines are good, especially ones with Bosch injection pumps, not much work needed at all

From the wholesalers I guess - still have to pay duty though.

We have both a transit & a ldv - yes it looks like it is going to be straightforward to do them.

I'm not sure about this, but I think the school will have to pay duty on any veg oil it uses as fuel.

I know there is an exemption for people who use less then a certian amount of fuel but I think it only applies to private indivisuals.

Are you planning to buy clean veg oil or filter used oil?

Isn't that only on over 2500 litres though?

Is it even much cheaper if you have to pay duty? Stupid Government charge you at every corner makes me angry.

Lol I wish. We near had a mutiny when we told the kids we weren't doing chips anymore. Our deepff is now redundant.

Apparently we're not doing it to save money we're doing it to 'save the planet'.....

We're going to use pure vo and we're going to pay the duty. I know of two individuals (not organisations) who have been caught not paying duty on their vo for their businesses.
