    Comms Cab Layout

Hi just after a bit of advice, looking to tidy up a 42U cab that houses 11 Patch Panels, 4 Hp 1910 switches (2 x 24 port PoE and 2 x 48 port) and the Cisco 2500 Wifi Controller.

Its a mess and the previous support contractor (Local Authority) just bunged all the cables in, its a mess so needs sorting.

The issue is I'm in a dilemma on how to lay it out. any advice or pics of cabs done well and laid out so you can see whats in there. I have my 25m reel of velcro ready to tidy the cables plus several 1u and 2u cable tidy bars!

    Cheers

To be honest it is personal preference on how you lay it out. I'm not at mine at the moment but I have coloured patch cables for different things (Uplinks, Wifi, Printers, Phones etc)

    Also my stuff goes

    Patch Panel
    Switch
    Patch Panel
    Switch
    Patch Panel
    Switch

The switch below always serves the panel above.

I'd go for something like this:

    We go for

    Patch
    Switch
    Patch
    Patch
    Switch
    Patch
    Patch
    Switch
    Patch

The switch then serves the patches below or above with particular coloured cable for phones, printers, wifi, cctv and then a chosen colour per room

This is how I do it. A 24 port patch panel above and below a 42 port switch

We have an active and passive cab next to each other (so patch panels in one cab, and switches in another).
Another alternative we use is to put the switches at the front of the cab and the patch panels at the back of the cab, and patch along the sides. It's a good space saver.
