What does Rep Power mean please?

You see rep power? That's how many rep points you can give or take away in a single "repping".
When you're new it's 0 so they can't alter your rep.
As you get more rep, your rep power increases. Some forums have a minimum post count you must be above to get rep power as well, I don't know if this one does.
For instance, I have 2 rep points, but 10 rep power, which means I can give any of you 10 extra rep points for a good post, or take 10 away for a bad.

Right so who has the right to take them and give them away?
It depends on how the forums are configured. But in a default vBulletin install anyone with 'rep power' can add positive or negative reputation to anyone else.

Ah right, thanks

Can people see who's given or taken rep points?
admins can.

So, to get this straight - you gain rep power depending on how many rep points you're given?
yes. that's right
That just sucks.

Why does it suck? Seems like a good reputation system to me...
not really because i think this will cut down the stupid pointless posts that keeps popping up. I personaly really like the idea![]()

It puts power in the hands of the members. If you think someone deserves a positive reputation then reward them for the posts they make. They, in turn, have more power to reward others who make good posts.
If you don't think they are any good then do not reward them, or if you think they are talking tripe then remove rep.
Those with the high reps will have them because *you* think that they are the cream of the crop.
In some forums this cuts down on those who just want to push up their post count.
A word of warning about post counts ... don't try to catch up with Geoff ... he is actually a supercomputer based at a secret location and can post the correct information faster then you can say ... erm ... a very long word! Rumour has it that he makes up 1/4 of Google's server farms, but I think he is secretly the Facebook system!
/me runs ... very fast!!!![]()

Can we have a poll on this please?
