    Debian DVD

    Just tried to download the debian dvd iso files. Click on the link for dvd 2 and 3 and they fail. does anyone know where i can get the remaining iso files from.

    @MrHappy: I tend to find it a lot better to install a basic system from CD and then install from the online sources so that you make sure that you get the most up to date version of any apps... it also saves you downloading 8GB of files you may not even need.

    how do i go about getting a gui on the basic version of debian?

    I've downloaded both the vmware appliance and iso from debian website.

    I've at a command prompt in debian running on vmware

    If you read through the comments listed at the bottom of the page, there are alternatives commands provided to install Gnome or fluxbox.

    Anyway, mrhappy is coming from a windows environment, so KDE is probably going to be the easiest GUI for him to get along with. As it (can) work in quite a similar way to the Windows Explorer interface.
