    IQ test

    This is the test www.test-my-iq.com

Warning, it does cost £5 to get your results. It says it's a new type of test. I did have a go but strangely all the tests seem to be the same type when normally IQ tests are a bit more varied and ask different kinds of questions. I wondered what people make of it? It seems that quite a lot of people across the world have tried it.

I have just run through the 30 questions. I will not be paying the fee to find out about my result. I also would have expected a greater range of questions in an IQ test.

I find the pattern type puzzles easier than say word related ones so it makes me doubt that it is an accurate test really.

    Most online one's are pap.

Apparantly my Dad back in his Grammar School days was measured at 147. As my Mum has said for decades now, God just took away his common sense!

I had a school administered one and came out at 124 which I was well chuffed with.

Folks have to remember the average IQ for the population is ~105. Anything over 120 is considered to be in the top 5% of the population.

As above, the majority of online ones, paid or otherwise are utter rubbish. I don't intend to take this on so haven't run through it but pattern recognition (and the speed of doing it) is an important and old part of IQ testing. If anyone is really interested in their IQ, take the test from Mensa and then pay (it's not a lot) for the supervised test. I had mine done by a psychiatrist many moons ago followed up by a supervised MENSA one in Milton Keynes. Both were near identical and a mixture of pattern recognition (physical shape/form, numerical and lettering) and text based problems. It's amazing how many of these "IQ tests" ask mathematical questions...

Pattern testing involves a separate area of the brain. Some people can be brilliant with words and terrible with pattern. That is no reason to doubt the test. The pattern tests feature in the genuine test from MENSA.

We want everybody to be above average these days. No-one gets left behind.

I've done three IQ tests to help one of my mum's friends doing some sort of post graduate research when I was 16 (124), 18, (126) and 20 (124 again). Looking back I should have asked to have been paid for my time.

I used to have certificates but I don't recall seeing them in the last few years and certainly not since I moved house.

It would have been nice to have let it continue - I would have liked to have found out if I'm always a bit brighter every fourth year or if that was my intellectual peak.

I'm opposite, I'm good with patterns and not so much with words. I doubt the test because it only tests me on the patterns and I don't believe patterns alone can give a true reflection of my IQ. I scored 135 on this test, which surprised me because it says I'm in the top 2.8% of the world! Either it's not that accurate or I'm in the wrong job :-p

    IQ test-mensa.jpg

Got this a few years back when I used to be good with shapes, patterns etc. Did very well on the Army tests before that. Now do quiz nights for Team DENSA.
