Has anyone purchased a laptop that comes with XP instead of Vista recently and could you let me know where from please?
And can you still get hold of Office 2003 Student/teacher/home edition (the 3 user licence one)? (At a non-rip off price that is!)
regards

I've just been on the dell website and you can choose XP Professional when customising the machines instead of VISTA.

From Dell Website
"due to unprecedented demand there is a delay for these laptops"
(I don't think its a Vista/XP issue - the've just got a backlog on the cheap laptops
)

We got 6 from PC world not too long ago. They were Samsung laptops, not sure on the exact model of the top off my head, cost us £330 each.

Just get them with Vista Business on them, you are legally allowed to downgrade that back to XP Pro then.

Try Misco, their prices are good. As for Office, we buy Office 2007 licences at around £38 each but currently install 2003 for compatibility and learning curve reasons.

Because I've got a load of laptops to get for a primary I looked around and found that Novatech are a pretty good deal.. My neighbour has one now (on my suggestion) and he's very happy with it.
They do whatever license you want on it so you could do worse..

I'll second Novatech - they're still quite happy to do XP for you.
Make sure you speak to them though - they always seem to offer us better prices than you see online.

I thought PC World had stopped XP now but I'll give them a go.
This is for a real person not one of us so I can't just downgrade it to XP/ Office 2003.
And thanks for the other info but I'd never recommend a friend to buy online from a UK computer maker direct as IME they all go under one day and you only find this out after you've paid money out but before you've received the goods. This is my personal experience
No manufacturer from my youth is still trading today
