    For Your Astronomers: Earth Will Be At Aphelion At 5:00 PM Today

    Link: Earth Is Farthest from the Sun for 2014 Today

    ...the Earth will reach aphelion, the point in its orbit when the planet is farthest from the sun, at 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. PDT/0000 GMT) tonight. At that moment, the distance between the Earth and sun will be 94,506,462 miles (152,093,407 kilometers) as measured from center to center.
