How to be insufferable on Facebook

    This article made me smile.

    http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/07/7-ways...-facebook.html

I see a lot of these two 'categories'

    • 1a) The "I'm Living Quite the Life" Brag
    • 2) The Cryptic Cliffhanger

    Hmmm
Interesting sentence here: "the only people it's okay to brag to in life are your close friends, significant other, and family members"

This pretty much identifies who I am friends with on Facebook
This seems to apply to people who have hundreds of Facebook friends who are really just vague acquaintances

    Likewise - usually from family

Sod trees falling in empty forests: if something happens and wasn't posted to Facebook, did it actually happen?

Wait.... you mean.... your friends on Facebook are.... what.... actual 'friends'?
    You one crazy gal.

You must have snubbed the friend requests from people you once bumped into 14 years ago at the newsagent. Brutal.

LOL I think insufferability is a matter of perspective - for example, I can't stand pictures of babies covered with food. It makes me physically gag. Yet people insist that posting 9 pictures an hour of their child covered in unidentifiable gloop is 'cute'. Or this 'cake smashing' trend that seems to have appeared where people PAY photographers to take photos of their babies in cute outfits smothered in smashed cake. Excuse me while I go vomit.

That being said, when you're struggling to have a baby yourself, your feed is FULL of the pregnancy announcements, the scan pictures, the new baby pics, the happy grandparents. It's a knife to the heart every time.

I'm very quick to unfollow these types of people:

Well - most of them. I use Facebook to keep up with friends and family around the world.

Some of the worst offenders on my feed are close friends or family. I got so sick of cousin Sue's sanctimonious finger wagging that I unfriended and blocked her. I'm sure next time I see her at a family event I'll get the usual whiny interrogation. So many of my close friends have had babies/are pregnant that it's a minefield for me. I want to install that 'get rid of baby pictures' app but I can't because I need to keep up to date on these people otherwise it makes things awkward. We're go-to-each-others-houses-and-socialise friends with a professional photographer and she's always posting promos for her baby cake smashing thing. Ack.

My facebook posts are usually cat pictures (my own cat), Rabbit pics (my own Rabbits) or the results of various crafting efforts with links to the pinterest pins as I know most of my friends and family are into that sort of stuff too and I like to share good ideas when I find them.

Ironically I find the 'Share this post to raise awareness/if you agree/disagree with something' posts to be annoying too. I'll form my own opinions and keep them to myself thanks.

This... so much this. I had someone confess a pregnancy early to me last week. Couldn't stop thinking about it the entire time we were together. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them, but a part of you is like... why can't I do that?

If you looked at my faceache page you'd probably conclude that I died somewhere around 2006 but nobody noticed.

You two would hate some of the conversations I've had on Facebook [before I gave up on it]...It usually descended into everyone just saying "the baby". [Thanks for ruining a good character 'Other M'...]

@Joanne & @AMLightfoot - it took us a year to fall with our first*, so I have some small inkling of what you're facing and it was awful even in that year. You can't help but take it personally, and it's all but impossible to hang in there. But don't ever lose heart - my cousin and his missus have just fallen after seven rounds of IVF, and nearly a decade of trying. I don't know about good things coming to those who wait, but they do seem to come to those who deserve.

*she found out on the very morning I was driving into hospital to, er, fill a pot again for further tests... didn't bloody tell me till after though, did she, oh no.

    This is me!

One thing I hate about BookFace is that some people post pictures of babies every minute of the day and say how beautiful they are...... well some are not! which makes me think of this song

Then on the flipside you have others who 'accidentally' got pregnant and moan about it, or find out they're having a Boy when they wanted a Girl and inside you're like 'I'VE BEEN TRYING FOR TWO YEARS YOU UNGRATEFUL B***H, HOW DO YOU JUST ACCIDENTALLY RANDOMLY GET PREGNANT!!!!' or 'I'd settle for ANY baby right now - Boy or Girl'.

I loathe these too. Worst offenders are an aunt and the in-laws. Both difficult to block.

My friend list is like witch 's - close friends and family that I don't see often
