    .its when printer manufactures produce a new model - exteranlly identical to old model but change chip in cartridges so I'm left with 300 of stock

    It's a shame there isn't a supplier offering a service where you only pay for the cartridges you actually use and happily take back any that become redundant... Oh wait!

    from what I have seen a certain MFD manufacturer here its more frustrating seeing them add a notch or slightly altered plate to a toner to stop essentially the same toner working in the newer model.

    I am glad we don't pay for their toners and have it as part of our contract, as we have about 20 toners/imaging units for a couple of long gone MFDs here now.

    When you talk to a teach about a issue they have rasied and they say "it has not been working for ages", what I would love to ask back is "so why is this the first I'm\we're hearing about it then?"

    Yeah, that happens. I simply reply with "Well nobody has told us about it. I'll get it sorted."
    It usually drives home the point that "If you don't tell us, we can't sort it." without being rude.

    I always try not to, I try keep the staff happy makes the job easy plus they will make me tea and give me food

    Always tell them after I fix the problem that if no one tells me how can I know that there is a problem, it's not hard to contact me I have a office, phone, e-mail, work moble and a radio I'm not that hard to get hold of.

    Expecting drivers for Windows 98 and XP Si is a bit far fetched for new printers

    We have several printers here that are badge engineered versions of other printers and have notches out of them (ricoh 120n, brother HL2040) i just take my pen knife to them and make it work...

    To reply to the OP, can you and a hot glue gun swap chips?
