You could always try this little scenario to apply the clue stick.
Call at 11pm to the incumbent tech support required staff member goes something like this:
Hi, Sorry to be calling so late n'all but I was wondering if you could help... My 14 year old is having problems with his homework and seeing as you're a teacher I thought you could possibly help. *cue: deafening silence*
