I just wondered if anyone who has made the change from Education to Business sector has any advice on making yourself more appalling to the business market.
Not sure if itís me but I get the impression Business employers look down on applicants from the education sector.
I have a Degree in computer Science (doing a masters) and Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, ITEL, Prince 2 etc. certifications but I don`t even get to Interview stage.
I always try and tailor my CV to the job but it doesnít help.
Any advice from someone who has made the jump?
Does your CV look like it's written by a five year old? Can't believe you're not even getting an interview with those certs. Madness.
You have the certs, but do you have the experience? Can you show how you've used Prince2 in a project related role, how about using ITIL to reform IT processes/support structure? You need to both have the certs and be able to show you've used them to do something and have the experience that employers want.
I've made the move from Edu to business and I know plenty of others that have as well
Might be worth sharing your CV with those here that have made the move and see if they have any pointers?
I can help you with your CV if you would like. I would say that I have many satisfied customers but...um....
Anyhoo - pm me for my email address
What kind of positions are you looking for and do they match up with your experience and certifications?
