"Your Credit card has been compromised"

Sure I'm not alone in getting that phonecall but just had this regarding my commercial card from HSBC.. No dodgy transactions on there and the cards being replaced, but there was a moment of humour.

I changed my card payments on my ISP (to my commercial card) over the phone earlier this morning and then received an email to say it'd been declined.

Wasn't until HSBC rang up about the card being compromised that I found out why.

My ISP forgot the all important decimal point... £29.99 became something a whole lot scarier.. The phone call to my ISP after that involved one very embarrassed customer service staff member and me laughing although I'm sure I'd have been anything but amused if the payment had gone through!

We'd be unemployed - incompetents keep us in work!

Wouldn't be so bad if they had moved the decimal point to the right and then paid that into your account

Re: "Your Credit card has been compromised"

My ex-wife and I had this happen to us a couple of years ago.

Our local gym (name excluded to protect the guilty) forgot the decimal point for their ENTIRE direct debit run one month. Every member at that branch was affected.
Mine bounced, and I was charged £30 by the bank for the privilege.
My wife was debited *several* thousand pounds.
The gym mailed out to all the customers, gave away a truckload of discount vouchers, and paid back all the money, plus any bank charges etc.

    Talk about egg-on-face...
