    Exclamation Beware Amazon fake emails

    An obvious spam email hit my box today saying that Amazon had noticed unusual activity on my account... click here (Yer Right!).

    Don't need to be telling this community, but just watch out for it.

    It isn't very enticing, no pictures, not even a decent email address (team.amazon@e.server.com).

    We are getting a mad amount of phishing attacks of late. Any email address that's searchable via google is typically being hit!

    As a World of Warcraft gamer I get hit with a ton of these phishing attempts and when the email is from accounts.team@blizz.eu.battlenet.war...ration.com.net to an email address you don't even use in WoW it's pretty obvious. But I get regular panicked phone calls from my dad about these mails.

    I haven't played WoW in God-knows how long... I'm STILL getting them.

    My friends who don't even play videogames get WoW phishing spam, I don't think it's anything to do with you being on a list of WoW players somewhere. I guess it doesn't cost the spammers anything to send out extra emails, and with such a huge playerbase they're likely to get at least a few people who have played it.

    Just like the Viagra E-Mails, you don't have to be suffering from "problems getting up" to receive a spam about them. Just another blind mailshot hoping to hit a few real WoW players.

    Yes apparently they think I might be interested in 'love your lady long time' and 'be the envy of your friends for the size of your *censored*'. Which I admit is tempting, except I lack the necessary parts XD

    i had a similar spamming one sent to my private email along the lines of "i can help boost your SEO ratings, i quickly scanned your site and noticed your meta tags don't include X or Y and these are a few things you can do to boost ratings etc"

    I emailed back with
    "my site consists of a header which has an html5 canvas script running. other than that i have no content and the site is there for me to test things, pray tell how you would 'boost my ratings'...."

    i know, no point emailing back, but some who try the "personal touch" emails sound worse than the mass spam I R HAZ YOR $45MIL emails

    We have had this turn up in the spam box of several school email accounts - gmail got them - none of which has an associated amazon account

    I get tons of the WoW spams all the time, thank the lord for Authenticator Apps and two step auths on anything major in my online life !

    I had a chat with a colleague earlier about this and I still cannot believe that in this day and age people fall for some scams though where they give people stuff like pin numbers over the telephone though, email scams are a bit more fraught, because to the average joe nowadays and the use of HTML in emails, everything "looks official" even though its not, sometimes plain text was a lot better I think for spotting scams.

    I get about 10 of them a day....8 of them are from my girlfriend....

    but it's the 2 from my Mum that really hurt.
