LGfL URL filtering is generally delegated to schools. Try to contact your LA contact who should be able to provide you, if you are representing one or more schools, with a username and password for the Netsweeper system that categorises Edugeek, because of the forum, as 'web-based' chat.

Re: LGFL blocking Edugeek
Can you not get them to give you some unfiltered IPs? I know with Cleo that if you phone them they'll set you up static IPs that get round almost all of the bans letting you on youtube, facebook etc. Pretty handy for your workstation, so many sites usefull to me but none of the other staff get blocked otherwise.

I'm pretty sure they don't offer this, but Netsweeper is fairly versatile and you can (if I've read the manual correctly) ask Synetrix to create a new group - a range of IPs - which you can then apply separate filtering policies to.

Re: LGFL blocking Edugeek
@mitcheln thanks, yes i do have a user name and password for the Netsweeper system that categorises the websites i guess i will have to have a closer look . i use netsweeper a lot as you can add more than one site at a time, as we are using smartcache2 for the filtering which i'm going to ditch in favour for smoothwall...

You can definitely get a range of unfiltered IP addresses. You need to fill out the "WAN service change request" form and send it off to Synetrix who will make the changes pretty quickly.

We are on the LGFL and have access to the filtering system and all you do is add edugeek to the allow list...
