There aren't even any cows normally near our house!! No idea where they came from.....thankfully they've been mooved on now though :-)

They've destroyed the back garden though, fence panels smashed, the wife's spent a lot of time doing the garden planting veg and flowers and it's all been destroyed so she's, quite rightly, upset.

Waiting for the police to track down the owner.

I did need a few new Cow Puns last night though, so I entered "cow puns" into Google and the very first link brought me to Edugeek....we really do know everything about everything :-)
So you had the in-laws around. No big deal - happens to me all the time. Wife invites them doesn't tell me!

Recalling the incident is actually making me feel a bit nervous about my trip to the Lake District next week.
I bet you were really hoofing it away from that!

I've had a cow charge at me before, but it was just a cow, not a herd of them. Not even joking, I did the typical video-game sidestep (more of a diving roll) and let the cow run past, it then just carried on with its own business and ate some grass, which was a relief.

Bloody heck, they're not lieing about Edugeek being the top ranked for 'Cow puns'..!

Pretty close I would say....one of the farmers turned round and said that if the Police wanted to charge anyone with criminal damage they'd have to interview the cows....far from helpful.

If I were you I would see if you can find out the owner yourself. I don't think the police will spend much time on it. Are you covered by insurance?

We know a dairy farmer in the next village over, so we've sent him the pictures, hopefully he'll be able to help us.

To be honest, the damage is probably no more than £500. Probably not worth claiming for.

we've got to find an owner though in order to claim against someone....

I meant it's probably not worth claiming on the insurance for given what our excess will be

Nothing 'small' about it! That's 50% of my monthly salary!
Yeah, seriously, I'd gun for getting reimbursed, @Iain.Faulkner. If the cows are now kept with Farmer B or C (the ones that shifted them), Farmer A (original owner) will probably try and get his cows back. I'm guessing B or C has more than £500 of stock. He's not just going to let it be.

Don't get me wrong, I want to be reimbursed, we put a lot of effort into that garden and put a lot of time into it. When we find the owner we will be looking to be reimbursed....with the Wife just about to finish getting statutory maternity pay we can't afford to throw away £500

Story from my old railway job. We were on a crew train to a job when we the foreman does a double take at the embankment and hits the brakes. He reverses the train just to find a small herd of escaped cows coming down from the field above. Cue a group of guys in bright orange herding them back up the hill before they reach the track and delay the first passenger train of the day, then we spent the next hour patching the fence up. They move pretty quickly up steep slopes we could barely climb (whilst dropping their own 'extra obstacles' in our way). Apparently once they get a taste of grass on the other side of the fence they want more, so they might be back to your garden if they get out again.
