I always think of the book Spares by Michael Marshall Smith. I can imagine some of the less well policed nations doing this. Would the Chinese leadership? Would Putin?

How do you know that they haven't done it already? It would explain "bad" Putin's behaviour - maybe "good/better" Putin is having a break.

Hmm maybe, this is an honest question... I think of this kind of stuff all the time so not as provoking, lots of people seemingly found the movie Her (2013) - IMDb though provoking apparently but I was non plussed as I had gone through most of the scenarios in my head already and actually found it kind of dry and limited.

Does no one else think of random stuff like like this in their off hours?

Can you explain why you don't think it's morally acceptable without saying "It's not natural"?

No. That is my point. There may be disagreements with that view but to me it's valid.

Um, that's kind of the lack of a point, it is like a gut feeling, certainty without any factual basis. I have a feeling this could turn into the religion thread again.

The problem with the "it's not natural" argument is, where do you draw the line and why?

Is it natural for us to wear clothes? Is it natural for us to manufacture goods? Is it natural for us attend jobs for 37 hours a week? These are all mad man made concepts, so can any of those things be described as "natural"?

No need to lock the thread just pointing out that this could turn very long winded if pitting facts against feelings. Personally I see cloning as fine depending on how it is used. I would like to be able to clone individual organs and even whole people but where do you draw the line. As referenced earlier what if you could clone people to order Vier lieben dich (1996) - IMDb is another. There are all sorts of interesting moral complications if you can make and maybe own a person - that kind of thing went out of fashion at least a hundred years ago in non-illegal circles. It comes down to what the definition of a person is and what rights they are accorded The 6th Day (2000) - IMDb . If those stay the same then I don't see the problem. However it would put a crimp in the retail sales of a 'your favourite actress or actor' clones for 'personal use'.
