    Meetings I have been in

This reminded me of my previous life in the private sector. Sometimes I miss those meetings.

I wonder what would happen if, as "the expert", you didn't just agree and say things are possible...

I doubt you could be fired over it...

So true, although not limited to the private sector.

I think the difference is the power of "sales and marketing" in the private sector. There's not really an equivalent force in most public sector organisations. Someone in a school won't be going out selling courses that not only doesn't the school do, but that don't actually exist.

We have all been in those meetings. Scary to think I have sat on both sides of the table at times

Ahhh I can relate to that. But then I'm a technical project manager so I get to combine both the project manager and the expert in that sketch

This is why I could never do pre-sales. I'd side with the customer too much.

mrwITch gets dragged in to this sort of thing all the time and he always calls it like he sees it. The customer appreciates it and in the long run so does his company as he has stopped them saying they can do something that they can't. That doesn't mean they like it at the time though
