    Job Evaluation... again

Just got my grade and im not best pleased. Grade D for a technician which is just under £14.5k pa.

Dunno what to do, fight for more money or just pack my bags and leave. As it stands im on more money than my grade allows so no prospects of more money there, and itll be a while before the NM job comes up which pays a whoping £2.5k more pa! Big fecking wow

    Not best pleased

    So whats everyone else on?

As I understand it, you cant fight for more money as it is not a process to identify what people are paid, but what scale they fit into. (honestly - it's not cost cutting )

I believe the only thing you can do is identify parts of your job that have been missed which may have resulted in a better review (higher grade) I have been told that what they are trying to do is evaluate the level of responsibility people have and not their workload. I believe your best bet would be to write down everything that you do and compare that with the job that you have been evaluated to. From that you will be able to see if you have been incorrectly evaluated or if that is how they value the job you do. If that is how they value your job, I think it is time to start buying the jobs paper again.

    Re: Job Evaluation... again

This is one of the reasons I'm leaving, we had it in our authority - "single status". Essentially all of the grades have been messed up.

Technicians - now have a marginally lower top grade.
Senior Techs - Lower top grade.
Network managers - lower bottom and top grade, great if you were at the bottom as you've got a pay rise, but you can't rise as far as before.
Analysts - Now have a lower grade than network managers but up to the same maximum salary.

I worked out that it'd take me 7years to have my pay increase by £1 on what it currently is. 4 year pay freeze, drop of about £1100 then 3 years of it increasing by cost of living.. such a moral booster - hence my signature.

It sounds like you chaps are in the same boat, sadly all it means it staff leaving and with my job it becoming a stepping stone to other things as the grading is now so small (£21.5K - £24K).

I hate to say it but if I were management in such a large scheme I'd have my excuses covered for 99% of the appeals that were put in. I could have appealed, but decided to move job, ultimately both win - I get better paid and the council get ot pay less for someone new, only the school could potentially lose.

Senior tech? Whats that then? Our council have said you are either a NM or a tech and as such there are 2 grades; D and G with nothing inbetween.

    £21.5-24k !!!!!!! Our grade G is £17ish-18ish.

Where abouts in scotland are you? Any jobs? No really, i quite like glasgow and edinburgh!

    Re: Job Evaluation... again

First thing is as said start appeal proccess and write everything down you etc. Second talk to your head as they have some power they can change your duties enough to mean you are on next grade up.

Talk to your union... you are in union can't see why anyone working education wouldn't be as just asking for trouble that is.

Make lot of noise with other staff as think was staffordshire staff who nearly went to strike over it and council backed down and went back to the drawing board.

In Nottingham we have lower and higher grade techs do you not have high grade?

Our high grade is at least 16k.
Can you not show them this and try to argue they are underpaying compareing to the same job in other schools?

I'm classed as an IT Technician and I'm on 12.7k... they were gonna give me less but my boss got me a couple of extra hundred pounds on that one.
