    Why so? Personally I think we should only post what we are willing to post in public. Protected tweets don't really offer any protection.

    You're quite right, but protecting an account means you have control over who sees what you post. I'm quite happy to be blunt on twitter just like I would be to my mates, but I also choose not to say certain things with people if there's someone else in earshot.

    My first tweet (2 1/2 years ago) was for the college where I work. I have yet to do a personal tweet, even though I've had an account for about three years. OneTweetTony is one up on me!
