    Beer beer I want more beer . . .

Good morning all! The sun is shining and I'm now starting o think of all those lovely BBQ's I' going to have in the summer.

I would like to dip my toe into the world of brewing some of my own beer. Do any of you do this? (Stupid question as I know a load of you have a secret corner in your house where this sort of witchcraft goes on!)

Can you offer me any guidance on where to start?

    Cheers

When you leave it for a few weeks to brew, make sure you place it somewhere that if it explodes you dont mind getting a smell of beer everywhere!

Had this happen on a friends carpet, it still has a smell of beer in places!

I started a similar thread in December i think. Wilkos has quite a selection of things and has so far been successful...

    EDIT: Beer brewing kit...

Fog cloud yep yep apparently its going to burn off bit chilly as well!! I haven't had alcohol for a month cut it out along with bread summer body is earned in the winter as for the home brewing I have a few friends that do it and I have to say some of the stuff they have produced is rather nice ...this is my friends brewing 'notebook' Broomfield nanoBrewery - Brewing Notebook hes actually done a few recently but they haven't been documented..

I have a barrel that's just come good ready for Super Saturday this weekend

Beer brewing is really, seriously easy, and incredibly cheap to boot. £10 and an hour of your time for 40 pints. The only problem is that it's live beer, so there's a window of 2-3 weeks where it's drinkable; before that it won't have settled and will be too yeasty, and after that it's too alcoholic and doesn't taste nice.

Whether or not you consider "must drink 40 pints in two weeks" a problem is, of course, up to you

I wrote up a lot of waffle in @Little-Miss's thread about what you need, it all still holds good. And once you've done a few beers and start to wonder about wines, give me a shout, I've got an excellent fruit-of-your-choice jam recipe that works a treat

@Little-Miss - how is the homebrewing going, by the way?

As you're in Sunny Suffolk get down to the Dove St Brewshop in Ipswich - everything from starter kits to "boutique" hops, malts etc.

You can't miss it as it's slap bang next door to the Dove St Inn (and run by the same people) - a couple of samples in there should give you an idea of what to aim for, but it will also set the bar pretty high!
