I've downloaded the 1013.1 firmware update from Samsung, put it on a USB drive but it fails to detect an update. I can play an mpeg off the drive so it's detecting the drive. I unzipped the update file to the root of the drive as per instructions but still no joy. Currently the player lists the firmware as BSP-F5100XUB-1010.1
I've also tried the online update but that also tells me I have the latest version.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.
Any difference if you leave it as a zip file or not ?

It definitely does not require to be in a certain directory structure ie create a folder named UPDATE and then another folder with the name of the blu ray player and then put the update file inside of there or something along those lines ?

I can only see 1010.1 not 1013.1 or any other version : BD-F5100 - DOWNLOADS | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG UK

PDF Guide on upgrading here : http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...ade_by_USB.pdf

No tries as zip as a folder and all files in the root. I'll give Samsung a ring now.

Wording is a bit rubbish but it says

    How to Upgrade the BD
    -
    Player :
    1.
    Power on the BD
    -
    Player and wait until
    Home Menu appear
    2.
Plug in USB Flash Drive into BD
    -
    Player, select “Yes” when pop
    -
    up
    “Connecting to portable device”
    appear
    s
    .
    3.
    Enter
menu Settings > Support > Software Upgrade > By USB.
    4.
Player will search for newer firmware file on your USB Flash Drive
    automat
    ically
    .
    5.
Select “Yes” when popup asking for upgrade confirmation appear
    s
    .

To me that means placing the file on the root of the USB Drive but as Carl ( @nephilim stated ) possibly better to contact Samsung and they will direct you to the correct firmware file to use

Apparently I'd been looking on the US site which is the BD-F5100/ZA Support - Bluray Players BD-F5100 | Samsung Blu-ray & DVD Players

The BD-F5100/XU is this model (the UK model) that I have apparently and it doesn't support Netflix.

Can't the player download the firmware directly from the Internet itself (via its Ethernet port)? It seems a bit silly to have to load it from a flash drive.

Yeh I tried that but it wouldn't work, it of course wouldn't work at I already had the latest version for the U.K product.

We set the zone to US on set up, from there, we put the file on for the zip to be seen, then updated the firmware. On the new firmware we downloaded the apps.

PS 3 consoles have come down to about £130 or there abouts and you can get netflix / love film and possibly other stuff on there , go to the PS Store and download them, updates the firmware over the internet via a wired or wireless connection and works

If I re call correctly you can even buy a remote control for a PS 3 to control the video functionality instead of using the PS 3 controller ( either works )
