    @ Russ

Although I've sort of worked in IT for about 8 years, I've only been doing it properly and full time for four years.

Back in the early nineties, I worked as a database developer (on DataEase - anyone remember that?). The Artemis developer next to me was a member and kept recommending that I join. He would have proposed me. But I never did.

The trouble is you have to get someone to propose you. Does it have to be an existing member? This is a barrier to people like me who could join, but don't know any members well enough to ask them.

They prefer it to be an existing member but it's not mandatory... When you submit your application you just have to get someone to support it.

AMBCS has been dispanded now IIRC, anyone that was AMBCS was moved up to MBCS.

I am going to upgrade to AMBCS status, its just i have not had time to fill the form in. Do you know if they mind too much if your supporter is not a member of the BCS? I am sure my manager would support me but he is not a member of the BCS

    Re: British Computer Society

I think I'm going to have to look into this. I should probably have 50 points from my computer science degree (the maths!). I had to do a large final year project, this was there to meet the bcs requirements iirc.

Should also have 4 years of full time work in a relevant field (2 years ict tech, 2 years network mangler :P). I should have applied after my degree but I was too busy working. Started working as a nm the day after my final exam 8O
