    Creating/designig a poster

    Hi all
I've been given the task of creating a poster for a course that I'm doing, I've never really done any DTP work before so I'm just thinking about what app to use to get me started. I'll hopefully only be doing this once so I'm of course looking at free
I've downloaded a copy of Libreoffice to play with, is this a good place to start? I'm thinking Draw looks like the app that will fit the bill. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Shallow learning curve please

    Thanks all

We do lots of posters in OpenOffice (much the same as Libre). You might want to use the Gimp for drawing flashy pictures to use on your poster, but there is a lot you can do with Draw. I make CD & DVD covers using Draw and they look almost professional. (I say almost, because the double sided printing means things don't quite line up when I cut it out, so there is usually a thin strip of white down one side.)

Thanks for the reply, I've got Paint.net at the moment but I'll look at GIMP if that isn't upto the task. I think Draw is what I'll have a go with, there doesn't seem to be any templates with it though so guess I'll have to go from scratch

If it's a one off then you could always run the 30 day trial of Photoshop. https://creative.adobe.com/products/photoshop

I 'might' have to do another in future so I'd like to learn an app that I can use again in future.

    Thanks

I agree with @SYSMAN_MK getting a trial version of photoshop. If you wanted another alternative you can try the serif starter edition's

    Free Software from Serif

+1 to Serif PagePlus. Lots of pre-defined templates as well.

OpenOffice templates Apache OpenOffice Templates which should work in Libre although YMMV. The very first Draw ones are posters.

I found quite a good tutorial, I'm sure I would have worked most of this out myself but it helped. Draw it is
