Or for a minor award you could cut his hair - well you have to look after the servants, don't you?

Personally, if the money went back into the actual government and not the party, I don't see the problem. You want to donate £2 million for a title I'm sure I know a few places that could use the money. Be a great way to raise some funds for what 10 mins work? Unfortunately it doesn't happen, it just goes to funding another term of some who pretends to care about us common folk but doesn't really.

As far as I'm concerned the honours system sucks. For example Andy Murray might not have the sparkling personality and appeal of say Mo Farrah but he had a sparkling sporting record last year winning Olympic Gold and being the first British man to win Wimbledom for I think it's 76 years - no Knighthood, why not? I hate footy but David Beckham is a shining example of a true Brit success story - he'd sit far better in The House of Alford's as far as I'm concerned than many of the over bred, over educated types who get to grace those red benches now. Professor Stephen Hawking also should surely be ennobled - to me at least he is arguably unmatched as an example of a true Great Britain. If they can't run a honours system fairly then just as well they bin it.

Ever heard of "cash for honours"?

Cash for Honours - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    And more recently in August:

The chairman of Glasgow-based City Refrigeration has given £1.3 million over the past decade to Ed Miliband's party. He was among five millionaire donors elevated to the Lords yesterday.

And an interesting article here: Price of a Peerage

A peerage costs an average of £1 million in donations or loans to the Labour Party, but a contribution of just £50,000 brings a 50-50 chance of receiving an honour, according to a study published today.More than half the individuals who have given more than £50,000 to the Labour Party have received an honour.

It all stinks. We have a lousy system of government now. It's been corrupted by greed.

Quite. It's almost as though some people have a massive mental block that ran from 1997 to 2010.

How would making me pay for a bunch of dying political parties that can't rouse more than half a million members between the 3 of them improve politics?
