Which is reasonable care, as it is reasonable to expect new equipment to work as supplied.

Which is why we test older equipment which has had time to degrade in the way you describe. A straight-out-the-box cable will be fine (the manufacturer is legally required to test them) so we can put it into immediate use, and then add that cable to the testing schedule.

    Re: PAT Testing?????

Right all our pat testing done - not by me I might add.
Tester replaced fuses in most things including 4 month old monitor leads because the cable in the leads wasn't the right sort for 13 amp fuses, these were the leads that were supplied with the monitors.
I'm now quite confused about this!

He was very thorough (and humourless) - it's been a long day!

Old place where I worked, stuff like servers and switches were just visually inspected, not as if you can stop a production line just so you can PAT test the servers/switches!

Does anyone else do this?
You're lucky your tester has the nonce to actually ask about testing servers. The twit doing ours just unplugged the bloody things over the half term holiday when nodody was about... *GRRRRRRR*

    Re: PAT Testing?????

Has anyone got some opensource software to keep track of items to PAT test?

I thought about designing a website/mysql solution but experience has shown that after 2months of hard programming a team for 3 years had already made what I was after.

Ive googled around and found very few applications that are costly and run on PPC's

    Thanks

    Re: PAT Testing?????

The PAT tester that the caretaker here uses tracks each item its self i think. He asked me to backup its database for him, which i did, and it seems that each item has an 'ID' and has information on each test on there... Not sure if all PAT testers do this, as his is the only one i've seen :P
