    Working Hours

I start "officially" at 08:15 and finish at 16:45. However, I have been in today since just after 7 and you've guessed it, am still sat at my desk underneath a mountain of things that I need to get done.

Is this common?! Or am I just being crazy.

    Re: Working Hours

let me guess, you don't get any recognition for doing the extra hours and you don't get any extra pay but you do it for the love of it. It is quite common but the good news is:
    You don't have to.

    Re: Working Hours

I know I don't have to and occasionally I will claim for the overtime however I am very proud of my network. I have built something "if I do say so myself" that is fairly impressive from an old Novel network that was STILL using some coax when I took it over less than a couple of years ago.

Hopefully another member (Namely Uraken) who knows me personally will come along and substantiate my claim of network greatness :-))

I just feel like I owe it so much now as it has become almost a part of me (I know it owes me far more than I owe it).

    I might go home now.....

    Re: Working Hours

I officially start at 7:45am & finish at 3:45 with half an hour for lunch.
I normally start at a 7:30am & finish at 3:30pm with no lunch break. When I get home I often connect to the network to do some more work or research something or other on the net to do with work.
I can't claim to have created a great network, but I think I do a fair job as I am the only one to look after the network & whole school computer system & anything else that is remotely technical. I think my problem is I have been at the school to long (23 years next June) & know how the school operates. Obviously not been doing the same job all the time.
I wonder what would happen if I kealed over one day? I think they would just step over me & carry on.
    So, you are not alone.

    Re: Working Hours

I am supposed to start at 8am - 4pm but I get a lift with a teacher so I get there about 7:30am - 4:30pm. Though it is surprising what you get done in the extra hour.

    Re: Working Hours

I start 8:00 - 4:30 with an hour for dinner officially.

8:00 - 6:00 is often the norm with no dinner at work.

Then probably another 40 hours + outside of work at home after school and at weekends. As was said on a post above, I am not forced to work but through choice I enjoy what I do and if I didn't put the extra work in, I wouldn't get half the jobs done.

    Re: Working Hours

I try to make sure the team only work the hours they get paid. If they want to do more or do things from home I try to make sure they are recompensed.

If they want to be geeky at home I think self-study is best rather than working silly hours to do something that if it was planned properly could (and should) be done during the working day.

Then again I am paid to do a minimum of X hours ... and the rest is at the Head's discretion (within legal means)

I do tend to work 8 - 5 with a few small breaks during the day, but they are interspersed with meetings, duties and external activities. There are some days I will do 7 - 9, others I do 8.30 - 3.30.

    Re: Working Hours

    My hours are 8.30 - 4.30
I dont normally come in any earlier but I normally stay till nearer 5

Even then I get sarky comments as im locking up at 4.55 - "hard day was it" "clocking off early are you"
NO ive worked over my bloody hours already...should I say the same about you when you dont work through the holidays
