Google Glass, What do you guys really think?

    Hey Guys

So after looking for a new xmas present I've decided to put the money towards a Google Glass when they are released. Yes ok, they may look silly, you may get some strange looks from other people. But to me it's a new piece of technology for a change. I like that we are moving on for the last 7 years it's always been the same gadgets. Games console, laptop, tablet, TV, MP3 Player. Nothing new has been bought to the market in a long time all we get nowadays are upgrades to things we already own for example Playstation 3 to Playstation 4... yawn big woop! Nothing really is changing there it's still a device that connects to your TV and allows you to play a video game and if you have a gaming PC like me things like this don't bother you. It's like smart TV's with 3D etc... whats the point? Go out buy a boxee box and you've got yourself something better than a smart tv for less the price.

I don't know just think it's nice for something completely new to be created! What do you guys think about Google Glass, will you consider buying one or won't touch it? Hmmmm...

I would LOVE a pair. A good friend of mine moved to Texas a year or so ago and has been testing Glass for a few months, he has posted the odd random photos to Facebook but he has fully adopted them and has found them very useful.

Honestly I wouldn't spend that much on something that I still can't see a "unique" use for. Same reason I haven't bothered upgrading phones etc in a while.

What does it actually do that a normal smartphone etc doesnt do currently? Don't get me wrong, love the concept etc, but it's same with the whole smartwatch etc, just why

Functionality aside not sure if it's been discussed before, but from what I last saw of them when I looked it can't be used with things like normal glasses, which doesn't do me much good

Just think at that price you could buy a lot of things, or basically get the same your phone already does, just to wear on your head hmm :P

    I want a pair!

I try to get out and cycle/walk so would be good to record certain adventures.

Plus I just like the idea of having tech at your eyelids..... /badjoke

    Record video/take photos from a first-person perspective!

The version designed for consumers is going to be much cheaper than the 'Explorer Edition' Google Glasses.

No one knows yet, the Explorer editions have been costing $1300 or so.

Having a controllable* heads-up display would be useful.

Having something that obviously attached to your face, not so much - it needs to be more svelte and integrated into an existing pair of glasses/sunglasses. That's without going into the unintended creative uses for streaming from the camera (see Xbox streaming for "oh, we didn't expect our users to do that").

    *blinks, eye movements, whatever.

If the rumours are to be believed then it could cost somewhere in the region of $300.

Given that you need to pair it with an Android smartphone, I reckon Google will want to sell it as cheap as possible (similar to their Nexus devices).
