Everyone who has been affected by this should at the very least close their bank account and re-open under a new account number.

Ours gets the unencrypted ftp treatment to county :? They can't get their head around sftp
but seriously this happens all the time in Department of Work and Pensions - they send unencrypted disks of all benefit claimants to borough councils to update the local databases. cd updates get sent once per month IIRC.

I know someone who works for the DWP and they have said that on average that a disk of data is lost every 2 months around the country.
