What shall I have with my duck?

    Morning Lords and Ladies!

Tomorrow, my daughter is away at a Brownie sleepover so I want to cook a nice, romantic meal for me and the missus.

I have decided on doing roasted duck breast with a plum sauce (homemade) and sweet pototoe mash but I'm after ideas on what else I should put on the plate. Green beans, savoy cabbage, rice . . . . please let me know what you think.

I'm doing bruscetta for a starter and double chocolate cardamon pots for dessert.

    Cheers

I take it she only gets beans on toast when she's back home then?
Funnily enough, my daughter is away on a Brownies camp this weekend too.
    Curry time!

LOL - Put it this way, I think I only cook about 5 times a year and out of that, 3 are beans on toast!

I can cook I just don't like it. Shame really but I prefer to watch someone else cook and down a glass or two of red at the same time.

I do a duck breast in plumb sauce with; a potato mash on a bed of spinach topped with a few fine beans and a parmesan crisp. As an extra I do sweet potato peeled and chopped into small cubes <1cm, mixed with a little finely chopped fresh ginger, a little oil and then coated with a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, clove and a chilli, then baked in the oven till the outside is going golden.

Thanks @pcstru - I was thinking of spinach but it isn't one of the wifes favourites.

I'm thinking of maybe some little rostini's for for a but of crunch.

No idea if it goes with duck as it is usually served with haggis, but show off a bit and make clapshot! Clapshot recipe

The name isn't very appetising but the variation I cooked had the potatoes and turnips in round slices instead of mashed. it was delicious.

I think a Rosti would work really well. A little stack of fresh green beans would add some color and finish off the plate nicely.

That does sound nice. I think I will now be going with the rosti but I have saved the Clapshot recipe as I think that sounds nice and I know what else we can have that with!

    Cheers

I'll see if I can dig up the recipe at home. It's in a cookbook I bought on my visit to Inverness in August. Been thinking of using it with some Quorn mince to replace haggis since half the people I know are vegetarians and the other half won't touch haggis!
