Have a look at the sony e-readers. You can get excelent refurbs and they take loads of diffrent formats all handled well by calibra. Also has headphones for mp3 file or audio books so covers that as well. Light might be an option for reading in bed if you dont want a bedside light on though. Screen is excellent also.

I've not needed a light myself - but then, I mostly read where I read normal books/papers, so there is sufficient light anyway. I would guess it would be most use if you read in bed and don't want to disturb your partner.

Is the Nook locked to the B&N store or can you download books from Amazon and other places as well?

My wife has got a Nook simple (great value at about £30) - it can show any epub type file - you can grab loads off Gutenburg etc - or convert using Calibre

Am I right that you can have a Kindle reader app on Windows, download a book from Amazon (often cheapest) then convert with Calibre and side load onto your Nook
