Should we buy 19" tft or 17" for normal classroom use?
Just wondered on what peoples thoughts are on this now? Should be be buying bigger ? DO Becta or other bodies have a recommendation?

17" - 19" take up too much space really I would say. A 17" screen is suitable for displaying everything necessary in a school.

If you have the space for 19" go for them.

For normal classroom use we had a LOT of 17" monitors. In the DT ICT Suite we had 19" monitors purely for CAD reasons. It just looks better on a bigger screen![]()
17"
19" hard glass!

heads 17" tails 19"

How much more expensive are the 19" ones?

On dabs today I bought a 19in widescreen for £80 - and a 17in for the same price :!:
(17in for classroom, 19in for display of nice pictures outside head's office)

On eBuyer the network manager purchased some parts for a PC and 2 x 19" monitors of eBuyer for £100 each with 3 year warranty. Not widescreen though as there isn’t enough room on the desk.

I just bought a 20" Samsung 2032BW Widescreen and it's great!
Really, really cool
Bigger isnt always better, we've got a small suite with 19" screens and it looks a bit silly, there isnt much room between workstations
Its weird they have phased out 15" and now starting to phase out 17"...in a few years are they going to force people to buy 24" screens?!
The latest batch of pc's we bought all came with 19" though the room could take the extra size. If your tight on space 17" if not get bigger.
It wouldnt surprise me! It seems that the manufacturers don't think about the schools and space saving! Widescreen will soon be the normOriginally Posted by sidewinder
I wonder if someone would have given a similar reply 10 years ago when asked '12" or 14" CRT?'. The need for bigger and higher resolution screens will come - only a few years ago we were all happy with an 800x600 15" display, until more things started getting written assuming 1024x768 (on-screens tests/SATS pilot and AQA e-Science to name just two) - there's no reason to assume this won't continue so if you have the space, I would say go for the 19".Originally Posted by localzuk
Also, from a marketing point of view, 19" monitors will look good for longer - as more parents get new computers with 19" at home, your 17"s could look sub-standard, whereas the 19" will still look modern. Also remember that computers have been "proven" to work faster with a bigger monitor...
