So , how many people are in your IT Department and what are their roles ?
Just me. Everything!
2 people. A technician and an IT Manager (myself).
Tech - fixing day to day issues, assisting users, running around, getting quotes for toners and other small purchases.
IT Manager - Network config, server config, large scale projects, disaster planning, managing the technician, planning future spending, major issue resolution, complex issue resolution.
That's a very simplified outlook by the way, as listing all the responsibilities would take forever.
We've got 25+ virtual servers running across 6 physical servers, 150 desktops and laptops, 100 thin clients, about 20 ipads, 20 netbooks, 40 printers, asterisk phone system, cashless catering, half a dozen digital display systems, stage lighting and audio.
We also maintain several custom programs.

Let us know what numbers of servers/workstations/users your looking after too... I'm currently thinking of arguments for a 2nd technician as things are mounting up...
There's just two of us here... We've got 15 servers, about 400 PCs/Laptops, 60ish iPads, 1100 users...
Me - moving paper between desks, signing stuff, attending meetings and complaining about lack of coffee. Trying to look both busy and like I know what I'm doing...
Tech1 - mostly doing work for our feeder schools and managing their needs, helps tech2 when he can.
Tech2 - does most of the real work here, hasn't learnt that it's okay to hide from teachers yet. Helps tech1 out with feeder schoo stuff.
- IT manager - does networks, email system, users, MIS, buys stuff, etc
- Senior techie - me! - website, any programming, covers the others
- Hardware techie - installs m/c, looks after printers,iwb,scanners, consumables, etc
- Junior techie - does the crap that we don't want to do
I could actually do everything the IT manager does, but he keeps the "keys" to himself.

We will shortly be appointing a Deputy IT Manager and the idea will be to split the department into servers\networks (me and my Deputy) and desktops (my two technicians).
