    RM job cuts

    I heard today that RM are cutting another 300 jobs. This is 2 years on from the last round of major job cuts. Has anyone else heard this news?

    Its bad for those losing their jobs, but RM are money grabbers in many cases.

    Can't say I'm entirely surprised. They don't actually do much other than rebadge gear, anything further than that is just putting in OEM available hardware. We even found out who made their handily proportioned G series cases last year although to RM's credit managed to undercut any other supplier by a long way.

    I have always felt that RM has failed to move with the times. It had that horrendous CC4 debacle that crashed it's rep hugely and must have hit the bottom line badly. They have taken a heap of time moving toward offering a more efficient purchasing system, their prices have never appeared to me to give them a competitive edge. Why they have rolled over and encouraged schools to migrate from EasyMail is a complete mystery - surely the answer there would have been to get expertise on board to move EasyMail away from feeling so clunky and make it a top notch must have tool for schools.

    I seem to far to often nowadays to be speaking to support staff who need me to phonetically spell out my name, the e-mail address and school address. Occasionally I call support and speak to someone who understands the English language spoken with a Cornish accent and has an instant grasp of what my issue is.

    In a word it has to come down to the quality of Management and Leadership. With the right people doing the right things for a fair price RM should be the school's market leader - maybe it's not too late for it to focus and make itself just before it's completely missed the boat?

    Someone likes RM though - their share price has moved up pretty substantially over recent weeks.
