May have "done to death" @nephilim, but it's good to get an up to date idea of whether you are under or over staffed compared to other schools.
Just me, part-time, supporting 140 PCs and netbooks, 23 staff laptops, 17 interactive boards and associated AV gubbins and the newsletter
Yes, I agree
I was hoping to see an improvement but it seems not
Mind you, isn't it in the USA where a couple of guys support hundreds of machines all over a county?
1 NM, 1 Network Admin, 1 tech and 1 part-time Mobile Devices Co-ordinator. 600 desktops, 150ish mobile devices. 1 site. Seems normal, borderline overkill.
1 tech to 366 machines
Just Me ! 550 PC's, 110 Laptops, 10 iPads, Wireless network, Zero Clients, Virtual Servers, 78 Virtual PC's, SANS, VLE oh and nearly forgot changing the dial on the amp because they don't know how this stuff works!!!!!
Me, 2 techs.
1000 student netbooks
BUT I think the tech to PC ratio is wrong to use, Projectors/Printers/Services offered.
Our tech to PC ratio is impressive but then I add the above and... we provide SLG for homework/timetables, RealSmart for interactive learning, Parent Pay for cashless catering, Biometrics which links to Cashless catering/printing, projectors in every classroom, IWBs in most classes, we also prep the halls/areas for presentations.
SLG and Parent Pay is accessed by parents as well so another username/password for them too.
Most of our PCs are also 5-10+ years old and not looked after..
Thinking about it further I also agree that it is a bad metric. I included all of our BYOD's and they are maintenance free.
1 NM (me) and two full time techs supporting over 1200 devices and 30 servers.
We need another network-type person really as my Techs are full on with the desktop side of things and I'm the single point of failure (and also there is too much to do for one person). Hence we're looking for an assistant NM.
Just me vs 7 servers, 550 workstations, 50 laptops and whiteboards with projectors in every classroom.
2 of us , 650 Thin Clients (mobile and static ) & 410 fats including Macs.
VDI on the thin clients makes it manageable, convert them to fat devices and it would not be manageable.
about 30 Physical servers, and 20 Virtuals on that...
We do it all..
