Anyone been on a Python course?

Has anyone been on the Python 3 Programming course offered by QA?

I'm due some training and am considering going for this one rather than another Microsoft one.

Unless it's something you're specialising in, seems a bit of a random choice personally :P

You are just in time to start this one:
    https://www.edx.org/course/mit/6-00-...r-science/1122

I looked at it last year but didn't complete it. Looks good though.

If work is paying for it go for it.... What have you got to lose??? If not, trust me python is not hard to learn at all. I did my degree in programming, but have not done anything for ages. But managed to pick it up from the different tutorials on the net. It's not that difficult.

As denon said - if work are paying, why not? Looks like a pretty comprehensive syllabus

I've been working through Think Python - bought the ebook through B&N not because I particularly needed it, more as a donation because it's good.

Thanks for the advice, turns out that the training provider we have the credits with doesn't offer the course even though they list it on their website!
The trouble with the Introduction to CS and programming course is that I have too many other commitments to be able to regularly dedicate time, still it's an option I didn't think of so thanks for that.
I like the look of that Think Python site. I'll give it a go.

Yes the MIT courses really do take some dedication.

Have you asked your IT department what language they will teach? Mine is starting a computing course next year and the HOD mentioned they are thinking of doing Python. Learning means they have someone to bounce ideas off.

Are we supposed to be delivering programming in Python starting from September 2014 for GCSE or did I imagine it?

There is already a GCSE computing course, I don't know if/when you *have* to deliver it.
You certainly don't need to choose python, but many schools have done (ours included) because it is a rich but very easy to use language and is perfect for beginners. There is lots of free online help as wells as IDE's etc available.

Would they give you time to do it? most of the uni courses are free these days.

I would say more constrictive than restrictive.
