Definitely a "what would benefit our current batch of students?" and "what bits of that would benefit future students?" and go from there.
We (for example) have a small Learning Support computer suite so there's always a quiet place for them to get stuff done (or decompress, as appropriate). It's next door to the Learning Support office and gets well used.

That's right, but I was talking about how we might not necessarily be completely specific about "X need" when we're planning for future developments (statemented children with particular needs aside). Sometimes we do decide to make a foray into a new tech ecosystem to see what it brings us.

iPads are great. Loads of SEN apps available. I was asked yesterday by our SEN to take a look at an exam pen for a girl with dyslexia. It is a scanner pen that uses OCR to identify the word and displays it on a screen on the pen or plays the sound through an ear piece. They cost between £150 and £200 but they identified a need so I wi buy it.
Also look at needs of hearing impaired students. Often overlooked if they have implant hearing aids but brilliant at hooking up to loops and other systems.
