    Morning/lunch breaks?

Just wondering what sort of breaks you guys/gals get through the day?
I grab 10-15 min in the morning (just before the school break), and go out for tasty packed lunch in the car at lunchtime (1/2 hr)- if I didn't get out I wouldn't get a lunch break, of course............
normal hours are 8 - 4 as well.
Teachers don't seem to recognise breaks at all , eating prepacked food 'on the hoof' whilst dealing with all sorts and office staff just work straight through.......it wouldn't happen in any other working environment, would it?

I work 8:30 - 4:30. I get 15mins on the morning and half an hour for lunch.

Our teachers get 1hr at lunch, and most them sit in the staff room for the duration.

    Re: Morning/lunch breaks?

I do roughly 8.15-4.30 (sometimes more, rarely less)

I'm entitled to, but don't always get to take, 15mins in the morning, other than that it's 1/2hr at lunch.

Needless to say, most of the time neither breaks get properly taken.

There are H&S out there who would *love* to get around schools and haul them over the coals, I just wish they'd come in and have a look!

My hours tend to be between 8.00-16.00 and 8.30-16.30 with a quarter hour break in the morning and half hour at lunch. There's a rumour that I'm supposed to work half an hour less on a Friday since my contract is for 37h but I never take it.

@pinemarten: good point! i also did the whole eating in my car thing at my last job - nipped down the road to the supermarket... it's better here though cos the food is good and the canteen opens half an hour before the kids go for lunch

    Re: Morning/lunch breaks?

9 till 5 - the Head took pity on my wife and made it so I could help get the kids to school

I never take a morning break. At lunchtime I take as long as it takes to down the food - 10 - 15 mins.

Sometimes i'll stay 'till 7pm, usually it's about 5:30 I finish nowadays. Up until this year I stayed 'till 6:30 every night.

Never taken all the leave i'm owed in a year yet.

    Re: Morning/lunch breaks?

I work whatever hours are needed, no longer on a stardard contract and expected to work whatever is needed (you think associate and teaching staff get crap conditions? Try manglement ... too many late meetings, having to do extra duties ... and the pay is not as good as you might think!)

Usually it is 10-15 mins sometime in the morning, either no lunch or 1 hour ... and maybe a break in the afternoon, depending on how late I am working.

The team get a 15 min break in the morning (staggered so the office is manned) and 1 hour at lunch but they usually only take 45 mins ... but I try and make sure they leave the office and see other people in the staff room.

If they are thirsty and need a break from swearing down the phone at $big_computer_company then they can do ... I don't mind.

Likewise they don't mind if some days they don't get as long a break or lunch because we are mad busy ...

    Re: Morning/lunch breaks?

work 7:30 - 3:30. there's a morning break at 10:45 - 11:00, but I've never taken it. lunch is 1:00 - 1:45 when I nip down to the canteen for a sandwich. I like to look in on Edugeek while I'm chewing away but the phones don't have a break. I can't remember the last time I finished a sandwich without being interrupted, or had a full lunch break. There's always something going on.

    Re: Morning/lunch breaks?

I can start any time between 0800 & 0830 and finish between 1600 & 1630. Unless something very pressing comes up, I take the same break as all the teaching staff (all the technicians take over one of the staffroom tables!), and I get 45 minutes for lunch, either in the canteen, in my office with a sandwich or I nip out to meet my fiance.

As soon as you get in the door it starts and 5.00 is the norm at the moment.

Don't mind so much as i beleive in getting the job done and see other post i feel appreciated by the majority of staff who i have got well trained.
