    What's your background in jobs/education?

Have you had an IT job before?

Us primaries usually have servers, you'know! In fact given that you might be the only tech on site you might need to know MORE, not LESS about the server side
These tests really vary. The last one I had asked me simple stuff about what to check first if say a printer didnt work or someone couldnt log on. Others have asked me the meaning of various acronyms and what they are for

Most likely asked about IWB setups and software.

If you are going to be responsible for the server they may ask you about that.

I don't know how technical they will get... it depends on who is on the panel.

They will definitely require Server, AD, GPO, etc

Primary techs are generalists. They most often work alone as a department of one.

Comparison with doctors: Like a GP doctor, Primary techs cannot have detailed knowledge of everything or all the latest high tech equipment. However, we can and do turn our hands to most things. If we require detailed specialist knowledge or equipment we pick people's brains on edugeek, buy it in or borrow from a neighbouring school for one-offs.

Secondary schools are often big enough to employ people with more specialist knowledge to work as part of a team... these people are the equivalent of the hospital doctors and surgeons.

Budgets are small and expectation big as you are likely to be the only one with any kind of technical knowledge at all. There may be a good deal of equipment that is past it's best and an expectation that a set of iPads can replace it... expect questions on what we can do to modernise and how we can bring our hardware/software up to date quickly.

Do some research into the new National curriculum expectations for ICT.

And don't forget to do a bit of homework on eSafety as that is likely to be your problem too.

Bone up on safeguarding too. I got asked what I would do if I saw a child accessing an inappropriate website. What steps would you take to ensure that children are kept safe when online.

Having worked in a secondary school how well will you be able to adapt to the different needs of a primary school where ICT skills are not as strong.

As a primary school our budgets are probably far more limited than what you are used to. How will you adapt to running the department on little or no budget.

Hope these help and good luck.

I've been on the interviewing panel for lots of posts in a primary school and whatever the post we always ask what the applicant would do if they had any concerns about a child and also any concerns about an adult's behaviour. I know it's not technical, but if you got it wrong in our school, you wouldn't get the job.

In a technical assessment, don't overlook the obvious! It's great having someone with a high level of technical expertise, but the most common cause of a problem I come across is something not being plugged in or being plugged into the wrong thing. Common sense will take you a long way - because a lot of users lack it or at least don't apply it.

^ This, absolutely. As the go-to person for anything technical, you will be responsible for the safeguarding of children, either on the IT side of things or otherwise.

As someone who's transitioned from primary to secondary support, in primaries you are often expected to have a far more involved knowledge of the curriculum, the MIS and other data systems etc, whereas in a secondary they will nearly always be someone else's job. You'd need to be working very closely with the ICT coordinator - if you find that would be yourself (I would expect that to be a teacher in an ideal world but that's not always the case) then a very good working relationship with all the staff. You won't be able to know everything about what's required from the curriculum but they will, and it would be your job to translate that to a workable system.

Prioritizing your tasks could come up in one of the question as you will be the only Tech in the school.

Technical question could be setting up a network printer, calibrate the IWB and what AD, DHCP, DNS stand for.

You work in the Secondary School before, you should be fine with technical side of things.

    Goodluck
