As we all now know, Cameron is planning to force all ISPs to enforce filtering.

So, what's a bet he pushes the ISPs to use the technology developed by TalkTalk, thus netting his classmate millions? Could it be this is all just another Tory knees up? (Before I get called out for "Tory bashing" let me reiterate - I distrust all political parties equally!)
They didn't develop it, though AFAIK they paid for it to be developed... (not by us before you ask!!!)

OK that's fair enough, but it's my understanding that it's still their intellectual property (i.e. they have the power to resell it) - do you know if that's the case or are they simply a licensee?

Thought I'd put a link up for anyone else who wants to sign the e-petition opposing this on the UK Gov site :-

@tom_newton - do your "greatest" minds think that this is a technical possibility to do well, or will the best option (cost/power/processing requirements) be URL filtering (and if so, could you even do deep URL filtering to stop things like google images displaying stuff with safe search turned off without vastly increasing processing requirements). From the looks of it there are significant flaws in TalkTalks implementation (I don't have it so can't test - relying on a year old article so they may have some fixed) - the normal flaws you'd expect from a URL based/basic filter (no deep URL filtering, no header rewriting for forced safesearch etc)

I doubt it'll be any more robust than the cleanfeed system currently used.

You mean to one commandeered to fight piracy on behalf of the greedy media industry?

Just like this one will be.

I'm actually slightly ashamed that my mum sees nothing wrong with this... Doubly so that she refuses to listen to any arguments about it.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the "think of the children" pill - people hear that and all logic goes out of the window. (No offence to your Mom - it's the way we've been conditioned to think)

And that sentiment combined with the "if you have nothing to hide" mentality is dangerous

I really, *really* hate that argument.

If people truly have "nothing to hide" then they should have no objection to their entire houses being rigged up with CCTV camera's for "their protection"

I did. This in general Chat and not BTRD where it would not be visible to visitors and Google.

is this not aimed at stopping young children from accidentally viewing indecent images. Most of the posts above are complaining that it will infringe on their online habits.

I have a 6 year old who browses the internet and I do use parent filters but I am very much in a minority and dread to think what some of my sons class mates get to see by accident while at home. Will this not protect them from accidentally viewing some very bad stuff?
