what about malware? I suspect it would be fairly easy to write malware that basically said cough up £300 or it will download every indecent image it can find including ones that sare known blocked to ping the government filter so that the boys in blue come round

That would be workable simply based on the social stigma attached to being called out as a sex offender. Never mind any actual legal ramifications. Wait no, the bad guys have already thought of that.

I doubt very much that talk talk have the capability of building the necessary technology. It will be off the shelf stuff like netsweeper /webroot plugging into existing Cisco/Sandvine/Procera installations.

Good job OFSTED aren't rating the Government as they probably wouldn't get an "Outstanding" with this policy:

The five schools where provision for e-safety was outstanding all used ‘managed’
systems to help pupils to become safe and responsible users of new technologies.
‘Managed’ systems have fewer inaccessible sites than ‘locked down’ systems and so
require pupils to take responsibility themselves for using new technologies safely.
Although the 13 schools which used ‘locked down’ systems kept their pupils safe
while in school, such systems were less effective in helping them to learn how to use
new technologies safely. These pupils were therefore more vulnerable overall.

Further reading on the relationship between Cameron and Harding is getting interesting, turns out she's also in his Business Advisory Group (formed the same year Harding came to be a CEO of TalkTalk):
    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/b...advisory-group

I find it very interesting as this means their relationship can't just be brushed off as they happened to be in the same class at uni but that they have an active working relationship involving regular meetings.

This is really starting to smell of lining one's pockets...

I'm not surprised at all, but it'll certainly be interesting to see how this plays out. If they do enforce ISP filtering as planned, they could well specify the system to be used if it's going to be a government controlled blacklist. If that happens and they do push TalkTalk's system, I'll be very interested to see if this relationship is put under scrutiny by the press.

Lots of ifs buts and maybes, but interesting nonetheless.
