looking at airplanes in the sky

Hi

I have an interest in aviation and always wandered when I see planes in the sky is there something that I can buy which will let me look at these from the ground in clear view.

Could I use binocolours to do this? or is the range on them not very good

Any advice on this would be most appreciated 8O

Use a good quality tripod with smooth pan & tilt.
