I fail to see how anyone who isn't relentlessly partisan or totally ignorant of the way MP's salaries are now set could blame Cameron for this decision.

Careful, Matt, your prejudices are showing. My MP didn't go to private school, neither is SHE posh, and she deserves this payrise. And anyway, this was a watchdog, not a report by the Tories

Wow, what a wit. Well, half of one, anyway.

You really don't know how it works, do you. IPSA is responsible for setting MPs pay. Not Parliament. Not the Government. MPs have no veto, no vote, no leverage over the pay rise. It isn't up to them.

By all means blame the government for the stuff it's done and responsible for. But ranting about something they have no control over and haven't done makes you look like a partisan cretin.

You must be the arithmetic man; you add trouble, subtract pleasure, divide attention, and multiply ignorance. Don't know how it works ? I think you find the rich get richer and the poor just get poorer.

It's the expenses that wind me up more. Not the abuse of them - anyone would take advantage of a system, it's human - but their very existence in the first place. I don't get my mortgage, my travel, my food etc. paid out of expenses. The money that covers them is called "my salary". Why do MPs think that "salary" translates to "actual money I should have to spend on the things I want" when that's untrue for everybody else?

Sure, they have to have two residences in order to live in their constituency and attend Parliament. So let's use the money saved on one year's expenses to buy some shared accommodation in London.
