Hey everybody,
Firstly, thank you to everybody who wished me well as I embarked on my trip to the States, leaving my job in the process and thus becoming an ex-edugeek. I am now here in Reno, where it is (nearly) sunny and I have (nearly) got over jet-lag.
I am quite pleased that I made the decision to come out here, not just because it means spending time with my fiance, but also because it gave me the break from 'normal' life that I really needed. Which leads me onto this Pointless Question of the Week:
What about your current situation would you like to change, and what would you like to keep the same?
Answers on a postcard...or on the forum.

I'd like to have Cisco, Linux and Microsoft qualifications; and live and work in New Zealand![]()

I would like to live some pace warm and were it doesn't rain non stop.
Reno eh?
Watch out for those Reno police
This is a no-brainer question for me, hands down..without a second thought..I would like to emigrate to Keystone in Colorado, and spend out the rest of my days there with my family.
We have spent many a december there, its at an altitude of 2 miles, has utterly gorgeous landscape, is warm in the summer and snowy in the winter, thereby giving you the best of both the main seasons, has stupidly cheap living costs and is beautifully peaceful and quiet, away from the bustling crowds of modern life, technology and cities.
(I am , somewhat ironically, not actually much of a fan of technology believing that its probably done just as much damage to society as not, hence I live for the day when I can live somewhere more countrylike)

Sounds fantastic Jake, to be honest i can't think of a better place than that.

I'd say having a degree, being a bit more creative, being a bit more financially minded and living in a beach house in Australia, somewhere near sydney.
The obvious one I guess...
Same size house we have now but somewhere that feels more like home, with a slightly larger garden.
Beyond that, life's good![]()
Since arriving, I have had one sunny day - and the rest have been (literally) freezing. Yesterday, it snowed - I mean, I'm meant to be in the desert here!Originally Posted by FN-Greatermanchester
Although, when it was sunny, it was SUNNY - my poor British skin didn't know what to do!

Have a degree, Cisco and MS Qualifications and a million £'s in the bank.

So, Jake, why don't you go? If you don't go now, you never will - and you are young enough.

I wouldn't want too much money myself, if I had no debt then I would be financially happy with what I earn now. A bit more would mean I could afford a car but millions would turn me lazy.Originally Posted by john

i) financially I am not so sure of the move
ii) Our daughter is still only 19months old, and I am not sure about such a move for a child of that age
iii) Last time I looked at the possibilities of emigrating to the US from the UK , it was very difficult to get a move
iv) My dad pretty much missed out on all of my years between about 10 and 25, with our daughter now and with the father-son relationship between my dad and I now being where it really should be, I dont really want to now seperate us by half a globe
Way I see it, when I weigh things up, I still have many decades ahead of me, so I can bide my time and go in the future, when Bethany is a little older and my dad and I have had a chance to live the relationship we always should of had and also so he can get some of what he missed with me with his granddaughter
Sad story Jake. I expect your other half has family here too? that'd be a pull for her no doubt.
Life has got a bit mediocre for me. I'm hoping the change of job coming up will re vitalise it. I feel pretty fortunate that we're comfortable (what I call comfortable - just above scraping by), and are lucky enough to have our health with 2 georgeous kids.
I'd be finished with this degree i'm doing and be working. Totalling out my life's earnings with a student loan is not as much fun as it sounds.
The best thing about being at university is, although it sounds horrid, the distance you can put between yourself and your blasted complicated family! Nice to have my own life for a change instead of being stuck in the middle of their mistakes.
I'd also like to be able to drive and own a landrover. And a Cisco 2600-XM router...i can't run Call Manager Express on mine :'(
