i think best thing for us is to carry on and if they going going to them if we are no problem.

Two sites is not bad thing only if we start fighting with each other then it becomes bad thing as it dsont help ict support community as whole.

I think we seem to be the most noticed and used anyway. Their forum seems rather sparten and bare of posts and life.

    I really hope you're not implying that I'm a spammer DB... :P

I remember hearing about this site a while back but I certainly wouldn't have been recommending it. I followed it for about a week to see if anything useful was posted, but they seemed to get as many posts in a week as we do in a morning.

Their logo 'The essential source for ICT professionals in schools' Seems a little plagerist for my tastes!

Competition is always a good thing. Drives you to create the best online community for educational professionals that there is. Personally I think Edugeek is the best. Look how fast its grown in only 6 months.

    Re: Direct competition!

Started responding ... edugeek is in the sig.

There will never be only one place for answers ... the more the merrier as long as you don't get site wars.

I doubt it will go quite the way uk.education.schools-it did ... but there is nothing wrong with sharing best practice.

    Re: Direct competition!

I saw your responses Tony- did you know the admin is editing your posts (looks like he is taking your signature out!)?

I joined. Posted some. It's crap. End of.

Kudos (once again) to the forum admins on here that have given us a fantastic resource to come to and draw from when we need to. The difference between the sites isn't necessarily on a technical level (though the quality of technical help on here is far superior in my opinion)- no- the difference is in the sense of community found on here. You don't often get that on forums like this.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Direct competition!

I think that the fact we are willing to meet in person at the EduGeek Events and actually talk to each other (admittedly most of the time using Skype) als helps.

We don't have the time to edit everybody's posts though

    Editting my posts?

Ok ... that is his prerogative. His board, he can do what he wants ... it is just a case of it will drive people away.

    Re: Direct competition!

Heres a copy of the e-mail sent out if anyone is interested.

PLEASE FORWARD TO THE ICT TECHNICIAN/NETWORK MANAGER

    Dear Colleague,

I am an ICT Systems Manager at a large secondary school in Kent. I have set up ICTtechnician.com, a brand new website where ICT Technicians and ICT Systems/Network Managers working in schools can share tips, tricks and get valuable free help and advice from like-minded ICT Professionals.

Nobody understands better the unique challenges of managing a school's ICT network than another ICT Professional in a school. We often find ourselves working to tight deadlines, with limited financial resources, so I'm sure you will appreciate the benefits of ICT Technician.com, where you will find forums dedicated to:

    . SIMS & SIMS.NET
    . Facility/CMIS/ePortal
    . RM Connect
    . General School ICT Topics
    . Microsoft Active Directory networks
. ICT & media suite installations
. Very useful tips and tricks and jobs section and more.

I will be contacting thousands of ICT Professionals working in primary and secondary schools throughout the UK, so ICTtechnician.com will quickly become the fastest way to find solutions to all of your ICT problems.

For further information, visit http://www.icttechnician.com to join in today's discussions and be part of this unique brand new community.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mark Hyatt,
ICT Systems Manager and ICTtechnician.com founder.

    Mine arrived today.

The name Mark Hyatt seems familiar though.

    Quite alot of adverts though.
