You are connected to the Priory telephone exchange.

FTTC is available in your area
Yet no provider will sell it to me as were not in a FTTC area... erm....

Woop! All our exchanges down here are now 'Under Evaluation' as part of a government funding programme.

This happens quite a lot. There's also another scenario where it can happen.

If your property / school is very close to the telephone exchange often the line goes straight there rather than via a BT street cabinet. There are no FTTC / VDSL DSLAMS in the telephone exchange therefore FTTC and FTTP is not available.

Currently BT does not have a solution for this so the customers is stuck with ADSL only. Fortunately the ADSL is fast as they are so close, but still nowhere near as fast as FTTC.

i know bt seem to have a stupid roll out plan whereby instead of upgrading cabinets where the broadband is slow and where customers would bite their arm off for a connection capable of even iplayer they seem to upgrade people who have a decent connection and wonder why their uptake rate is low
