Personalized Number plates and Transferring them

I have a personal plate which I was bought as a present.

It has now come where i need to transfer this plate to a another car (which I don't own).

When i fill in the forms, does the cars original plate get returned to it, or another one of that year?

By the looks I just need to fill out this form - http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum.../dg_069390.pdf
    ( V317)

Don't forget there is an £80 transfer fee.

I am looking at selling mine (L15 TFC). Anyone interested?

Yup I know that - but otherwise i lose the plate as it can't go on my new car.

Unless there is anybody with the same name as me there isn't much point in me selling mine!

You can retain it for £105, which means it doesn't need to be assigned to a vehicle.

Depends on how long they have been off. If they where taken off after a certain date you will get them back. Not sure on the date, but at the very least its been 18 months.

When I said reassigned I meant back to the original car and not another.

I've just done this, the V317 is the correct form. Send it to your local DVLA office rather than Swansea though. There's a search tool on the DVLA site.

My original plates were reassigned, and it's been about 2 years since I took them off.
